Beauty
(This was previously published on my Facebook page about six months ago. I wanted to repost it here to possibly gain a wider audience.)
I am someone who appreciates beauty in all its forms. Yes, there's truth to the saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and what I find beautiful, another might find repulsive, but I try to appreciate different forms of beauty whenever I come across it. I think that Jehovah gave us the ability to admire and appreciate our surroundings, different forms of beauty as a way of getting us to stop and reflect upon our lives and the way we live them. Beauty surrounds us if we simply stop and take the time to pay attention. From a powerful piece of music to a sunset on the beach to a baby's smile or the way a woman walks. Today, we spend so much time focusing on the little things, materialism that we fail to appreciate the genuinely good things in our lives. There's a time for work, a time for play and a lot of life is just learning how to determine when you should switch between both. We should always try to keep in mind that this system of things is only temporary. Whatever gains we make while we're here are ultimately fleeting. Of course, if you have a family, you should provide for them and anyone who depends on you. I just think that, in the pursuit of material things, we shouldn't lose track of what's truly important in life. Family, friends. In the meantime, don't get so wrapped up in this system that you can't appreciate what is genuinely good. Stop. Appreciate beauty. It'll help you deal with the weight this system imposes on you. At least... it does for me.
