From Senator to President

I refused to believe it until all the votes were cast and everyone had had their say. At 11pm on November 4,2008 I was shocked beyond belief. Barack Obama became the first African-American to be elected President of the United States. It still sounds weird when I say it to myself. President Barack Obama. I thought that I would be in my 40s or 50s by the time a black man became President. I overestimated by about 15, 20 years and I'm glad to say that I was wrong. But getting elected is just the first step. There are so many problems facing our 44th president that it boggles the mind. Anyone that's read this blog knows that I've called at least twice for George W. Bush's impeachment. I think that this has to be the next best thing. Obama defeated Republican presidential candidate John McCain not in a blowout or by a narrow victory. It was a solid win both in the popular vote and in the Electoral College. After eight years, the man and his party were repudiated in a big way. Democrats now have a larger majority in both houses of Congress though not supermajorities. The people decided to go with a charismatic, freshman who's spent only four years in the U.S. Senate before making it to the presidency. That's how disgusted the American people are with the current state of affairs. I don't have the time right now to go in depth but believe me I will in upcoming posts. I just had to get this beginning down while it was still fresh. I will continue later. Peace!
