52
Ralph Dibny, Booster Gold, Animal Man, The Question, Renee Montoya, Black Adam, Steel, Starfire, Adam Strange. Not exactly DC Comics' holy trinity of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman now is it? 52 was a year long comic book series telling the story of a missing year in the DC Universe. It bridges the gap between the end of the 7 issue Infinite Crisis miniseries and when all of DC's books jumped forward in time One Year Later. It was the first time a weekly "real time" comic book has ever succeeded and the quality of the series was awesome. The writers on the book pretty much guaranteed that it was gonna be good. Geoff Johns( Green Lantern, Infinite Crisis) Grant Morrison( All-Star Superman, JLA) Mark Waid( Superman:Birthright) and Greg Rucka(The OMAC Project) are four of the biggest names in comics. DC brought out the big guns when executing this book. And it worked. 52 was one of the top selling books for the year and it's spawned a few new series like a Booster Gold title and I think one for the Metal Men. It proved that there's a lot more to the DC Universe than just the Big Three. During that year, a new hero Supernova patrolled Metropolis while Superman was M.I.A . The Question with former Gotham City cop Renee Montoya under his wing discover that Intergang is out to take over Gotham City. Black Adam is attempting to build a coalition of nations against the U.S. Animal Man, Adam Strange and Starfire are lost in space. Ralph Dibny is still mourning his wife after her death in Identity Crisis . Steel's trying to save his niece after she gets caught up in Lex Luthor's Everyman Project. All this is for starters. I don't want to get too in depth here. I'll do that another time. I'll be providing summaries of the series in later posts. I just want to pique your curiosity. I gotta go. Peace!
